Rongstad steps up to save Huskies

RICE LAKE -- Lindsay Rongstad nailed a big 3-pointer to tie the game late and then she sank two free throws with a little more than a minute to play in regulation as Eau Claire North avoided a Big Rivers Conference scare Friday night.

The Huskies edged Rice Lake 50-48 in a Big Rivers Conference girls basketball game that went down to the last possession.

Andrea Thorsness led all scorers with 18 points for North. Cassie Kowaleski and Holly Olson had 13 each for Rice Lake.

After North led 32-28 just 2 minutes, 11 seconds into the third quarter, neither team led by more than three points.

North scored the first seven points of the game and held two other seven-point leads early, but Rice Lake rallied each time.

The Warriors took their first lead at 36-34 with 1:52 left in the third quarter.

Their last lead was 48-45 when Rongstad hit her 3-pointer to tie it with 3:01 left in regulation.

Rongstad then won the game for North when she sank a pair of free throws with 1:10 remaining.
