Lindsey Rongstad scored 15 points and Anne Connell 12 for the Huskies (2-1, 6-2), who held a 30-24 scoring edge over the Raiders (3-0, 4-2) in the second half but couldn't avoid dropping into a second-place tie in the BRC standings with Chippewa Falls (2-1, 5-1) and Eau Claire Memorial (2-1, 6-1). Forwards Megan Hanson and Annie Nelson each scored 15 points for Hudson, the six-time defending Big Rivers champion. Larissa Parr, who scored a career-high 36 points last Friday against Memorial, was held to nine points. North outscored Hudson 19-10 in the fourth quarter, capped by Kricket Whyte's field goal with 19 seconds left that made the score 53-52. Hudson turned the ball over 8 seconds later. North tried to work the ball up the court after a timeout, but the ball went out of bounds off a Hudson player at half court with 2 seconds left. Connell then took the inbounds pass and fired a shot from half court that was short. The Huskies were aiming to upset Hudson on its home court for the third straight season. North stopped the Raiders' 49-game Big Rivers winning streak with a 58-50 win on Jan. 5, 1999, and then downed the Raiders 64-55 on Feb. 2, 2000. In each of the last two seasons, Hudson finished with a 13-1 BRC record. |
