North graduate earns MVP

Chandra Johnson, a 6-foot-3 freshman center from Eau Claire North, was named tournament most valuable player after two sparkling performances for UW-Green Bay this weekend.

Johnson scored 24 points Saturday night as UW-Green Bay beat Cleveland State 79-72 in the championship game of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference women’s college basketball tournament. She scored 19 points in the second half, sinking 12 of 13 free-throw attempts.

Johnson scored 20 points in the Phoenix’s 70-63 victory over Illinois-Chicago in Friday’s semifinal game.

UW-Green Bay (21-8) earned the MCC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
