Try "new."

Five of the seven members of this year’s team are newcomers to All-City honors, and the two repeat selections -- North junior Larissa Parr and Memorial senior Bekka Lundquist -- played new positions with their respective teams this season.

Plus, two members of this year’s All-City team -- North senior Emilee Planert and Regis freshman Katie Ryan -- were newcomers to their respective teams in 1999-2000.

This year’s All-City forward contingent includes Parr, Ryan and Memorial junior Amanda Buchholz. The guards are Lundquist, Planert, North senior Nicki Robinson and Regis senior Adrienne Manydeeds.

The 5-foot-11 Parr was an All-City honoree last season, when she was North’s first player off the bench. This season she was the Huskies’ starting center and averaged 13.0 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. She had a game-high 19 points in the Huskies’ 64-55 victory over No. 2-ranked Hudson on Feb. 1, marking the Raiders’ only Big Rivers Conference loss.

Planert also stood out in North’s win over Hudson, getting 15 points and eight rebounds. A transfer from Altoona, Planert averaged 11.2 points per game this season despite suffering from stress fractures in her left fibula and right foot that sidelined her for nine games. She played a pivotal role in North’s 64-54 regional playoff win over Memorial, seeing action in all 32 minutes because of foul trouble that plagued the Huskies’ other four starters.

Planert shared North’s prime ball-handling responsibilities with the 5-8 Robinson, who led the Huskies with a per-game scoring average of 13.2 points.

The 5-7 Lundquist earned her way back onto the All-City team via her stellar performance at point guard. Lundquist, who played shooting guard in her prior three varsity seasons, led the BRC in assists in 1999-2000 and averaged 4.5 assists in all games. She also paced the Old Abes with a scoring average of 10.8 points and 41 steals, and she converted 59 of 77 free throws for a 76.6-percent clip.

Many of Lundquist’s passes resulted in points for the 6-foot Buchholz, who averaged 10.9 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game. Buchholz also led Memorial in free-throw percentage (78.0, 46-for-59).

Ryan and Manydeeds largely were responsible for Regis’ steady improvement as the season progressed. The 5-11 Ryan led the Lady Ramblers with averages of 10.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She attempted the most free throws on the team and finished 55-for-82 from the line (67.1 percent).

Manydeeds, Regis’ lone senior, was the Lady Ramblers’ "quiet leader," according to first-year coach Chuck Morning. The 5-10 guard averaged 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and led Regis with 68 assists. She scored a career-high 23 points in Regis’ 56-54 overtime win over Onalaska Luther in a Region 1 semifinal of the WISAA Division 2 playoffs.

North (17-5) and Memorial (18-4) split their two regular-season games and finished with 11-3 Big Rivers records, which landed them in a tie for second place in the BRC standings. Regis (8-16) tied for fourth place in the Central Wisconsin Catholic Conference standings with a 4-6 league mark. Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, playing an independent schedule, had a 2-19 record.
