MENOMONIE -- The Menomonie girls basketball team halted Eau Claire North's
march to an undefeated Big Rivers Conference season Tuesday night.
Meghan Fieber's eight-foot shot with six seconds left in the fourth quarter
propelled the Indians past the Huskies 53-51 in a physical contest.
North (7-1, 11-2), which entered the game ranked No. 7 in the Associated
Press' Division 1 state poll, was in position to send the game into overtime
or win it outright.
With the score tied at 51, The Huskies had possession with just under a minute
remaining. But they turned the ball over, and Menomonie (4-4, 10-4) worked the
clock down to set up Fieber's shot from just inside the lane.
North still leads the Big Rivers by a half-game over Hudson (6-1, 9-4), which
won 65-56 Tuesday over Eau Claire Memorial.
Jackie Dummer led Menomonie with 13 points. Fieber scored with 11 points and
Sara Kahl had 10 for the Indians.
Rachel Evjen scored 14 points and Chandra Johnson 10 for North.
